5. I note that the proposals for amendment

of the Magistrates Ordinance which you have

(1) m 54384/32/48 Communicated to me in your despatch No.153 of

the 2nd July do not include the relief of the

Director of Marine of his duties as a Marine

Magistrate. I appreciate however that it is

administratively convenient that he and his

assistants should have magisterial powers while

the other Magistrates are so heavily worked

and I agree therefore that the present

arrangements should continue for some time longer.
